Despite so many warnings and repeated awareness campaigns, the waste dumpings throughout the service roads off the Ring Road continues without shame (Star of Mysore dated Nov. 13).

Whatever the Government takes action in this regard the common people should have moral responsibility and civic sense about cleanliness. Human beings are same all over the world. But as regards the cleanliness of roads are concerned, why we as Indians are different? Why shouldn’t we emulate the discipline that we see in some of the western countries?

I feel the media should persevere in this regard and show some comparative pictures so that it enters deep into the mind of the common man. People themselves should feel ashamed when they throw garbage on the road sides!

Throughout the service roads big garbage cans could be firmly installed every few metres. Probably this could stop the menace to some extent. Another suggestion is to make concrete sidewalks throughout the service roads which is lacking even inside some city areas.

Compared to many cities in India our Mysuru city is really very beautiful. But this garbage menace is a black dot which could be erased if the common man realises his responsibility. Very soon we can get back the “Cleanest City” tag !
