RMSC launches India’s first School Sailing Series in Mysuru

November 10, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: The Royal Mysore Sailing Club (RMSC), in collaboration with the Karnataka State Sailing Association (KSSA), inaugurated the School Sailing Series yesterday. The initiative aims to make sailing accessible to school students and nurture the next generation of sailors from Mysuru and surrounding regions.

The Ideal Jawa Rotary School and The Learning Curve International School took the lead as the first participating institution. The inaugural session saw 23 enthusiastic students from these schools experiencing their first hands-on exposure to sailing on the serene KRS backwaters. The students trained on Hansa class sailboats, which are globally recognised as learner-friendly, stable and completely safe, making them ideal for beginners and young sailors.

RMSC Founder Capt. Arvind Sharma said, “This programme marks a new chapter in Mysuru’s sporting history. We are laying the foundation for future Olympians while introducing our youth to the values of discipline, teamwork and environmental awareness.”

“Through our collaboration with schools, we aim to broad-base sailing across Karnataka and create India’s next generation of champions,” he added.

Highlights of the programme

Structured training: Students will undergo practical and theoretical sessions to qualify for the Yachting Association of India (YAI) Level 1 certification.

Inter-school sailing league: The initiative will soon expand to other schools in Mysuru, culminating in an inter-school regatta that provides young sailors valuable competition experience.

NCC integration: IJRS will soon offer its students the opportunity to join the Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) through an association with the 3 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC, Mysuru, combining seamanship, leadership and national service.

The Royal Mysore Sailing Club has established itself as one of India’s premier sailing institutions. Under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India, RMSC has successfully hosted several national-level regattas, including the Junior National Sailing Championship and the Asian Inclusive Sailing Series, drawing participation from across India and abroad. With the launch of the School Sailing Series, RMSC continues its mission to make Mysuru a hub for youth and inclusive sailing, fostering future champions who may one day compete at the Asian Games and Olympics.
