Road Safety Week: Shun flex boards, use other forms of media: Retd. SP

January 4, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Retired Superintendent of Police (SP) Shankare Gowda, has written to the ADGP (Road Traffic and Safety) to create road safety awareness through other forms of media too, without using flex boards during the ongoing Road Safety Week by Police Department.

In an e-mail to ADGP’s Office, the retired SP has stated that as per Karnataka Open Places (Prohibition of Disfigurement) Act, 1981, any damage to roads, junctions, circles and public places are punishable. In a recent order, High Court has stated that preventive action should be taken against erecting boards with message to public which are deemed as advertisement. Instead of putting up flex boards, social networking sites, print and electronic media should be effectively used to disseminate the information. Following the High Court order, directions should be issued to all SPs in this regard, added Shankare Gowda.
