Mysuru: Mysuru golfer Pranavi Urs, who became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in golf at the Asian Games, was felicitated by Rotary Mysore during the ‘Create Lasting Impact’ event organised at Rotary Centre on JLB Road here yesterday. She was also inducted as an Honorary Rotarian of the Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Pranavi Urs’ father Sharath Chandra Urs said that his daughter was affectionate towards golf since the age six and later developed interest in learning the sport.
“Having started to practice purely out of interest, Pranavi took to golf seriously and practiced continuously to make significant achievements in competitive golf. Representing India in prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup (Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship) at the age of 13 was her major milestone,” he said and added that through the Indian Golf Union (IGU) she got opportunities in various National and International events.
Further, sharing his happiness, Sharath Chandra noted that balancing both her academics and sports made her win the gold medal. “Parents can guide children in their decisions in choosing their field of choice. We had not expected that our daughter would reach such great heights. But having won a gold medal at the Asian Games has brought us a sense of pride,” he added.
Speaking on the topic ‘Create Lasting Impact’, Dr. Mangalore Vittal Kamath mentioned that technology had made life easier, but its excessive use was impacting on health.
Stating that while gaining the benefit of knowledge through technology was necessary, he said people should pay equal attention to their health also.
“Making small changes in limiting the use of technology, daily routine, maintaining proper diet, physical activity, quality sleep helps in having a better health,” he added.
Rotary Mysore President Rtn. M.N. Venkatesh, Secretary Rtn. Sameer Kashyap, Rotary Mysore Metro President Rtn. Satyendra Kashyap, Secretary Rtn. R. Ravindra Babu, Indian Golf Union former President Raian F. Irani and Anshu Gupta were present on the occasion.
