Engineering Minds, Life-Saving Hearts

Mysuru: Rotary Mysore joined hands with NIE’s North and South Campuses, CurePlus Blood Centre, Mysuru and Basavarajendra Blood Centre, Chamarajanagar, for a blood donation drive that drew an overwhelming response from the NIE community. A total of 465 units were collected — 250 at the South Campus and 215 at the North Campus — from students, faculty and non-teaching staff, on Sept. 2.

The drive saw many first-time donors, including over 150 female donors across both campuses. The Pink Booth initiative further encouraged women to participate.

With each unit potentially helping up to three patients, the drive could benefit nearly 1,400 lives.

The simultaneous drives were inaugurated by Dr. Nagendra Parashar, Principal, NIE, at the South Campus and Dr. M.V. Likith Kumar, Vice-Principal, NIE, at the North Campus. Rtn. Sameer Kashyap, Secretary, Rotary Mysore, coordinated the initiative with NIE, the blood centres and the volunteer teams.

The drive was supported by students, faculty, non-teaching staff, the Student Welfare Office, NSS unit and Rotary Mysore volunteers, with CurePlus managing collections at both campuses and Basavarajendra supporting the North Campus.

Rotary BloodBuddy:  The occasion also introduced Rotary BloodBuddy — “Your Life Saving Companion,” a technology-enabled initiative of Rotary Mysore designed to make finding blood simpler, faster and more inclusive, as a prelude to its launch.

For patients without a ready network of friends or relatives, finding a blood donor can be a daunting task. BloodBuddy seeks to bridge this gap by connecting those in need with voluntary donors and blood centres, creating a community-driven support network where technology and human compassion come together.
