‘Rotary Sainik Desh Rathna Award’ presented

Rotary Mysore Midtown, in association with Shrisainik Family, presented the first ‘Rotary Sainik Desh Rathna Award’ posthumously to martyr Major Akshay Girish at a programme held at Rotary Centre on JLB Road in city on Feb.15. Ashkay’s father Wing Commander (retd.) Girish Kumar received the award from Major General (retd.) Dr. Mohan P. Muttagikar. Seen in the picture are (sitting from left) Wing Commander Girish Kumar (father), Naina Akshay (daughter), Meghana Girish (mother) and Sangeetha Ravindran (wife) with (standing from left) Col. Praveen Deswal (1st CO of Akshay Girish), Jamuna Prakash, Dr. Mohan P. Muttagikar, Rotary Midtown President Rtn. K.B. Harish, Rtn. Bhaskar, K. Venkatesha of Shrisainik Family, Rotary Assistant Governor Rtn. K.G. Ananth Raj Urs, Rotary Midtown Secretary Rtn. A.N. Aiyanna and Rtn. Goplalakrishna. Major Akshay Girish of 51 Engineers of Bengal Sappers was killed in a terrorist ambush on Nagrota Army cantonment in J&K on Nov. 29, 2016 just a few days ahead of his 31st birthday.
