Mysore/Mysuru: After feeding the hungry bellies for 50 days non-stop, the Rotary Clubs of Mysuru have decided to stop distribution of food packets in City from tomorrow (June 21).
Addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan yesterday morning, Rotary Club of Mid-Town President A.N. Aiyanna said they started free food distribution on May 10 when the then MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag had appealed voluntary organisations to feed poor people due to lockdown.
With a view to helping people in distress owing to second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, they began distributing 2,500 food packets daily to people in distress at N.R. Choultry, CITB Choultry, nurses of various Hospitals and pourakarmikas. So far, they have supplied 65,000 food packets worth Rs.9 lakh. “Tomorrow (June 20) is last day of this service. We will like to thank all the Government agencies for the support,” he added.
He said members of over 20 Rotary Clubs made voluntary donation towards this cause. Besides, they were personally present at the kitchen where the food is prepared and helped in packing and distribution of food packets to various locations. Even children of Dwarakanagar collected Rs.20,000 and donated it towards this noble cause. Several individuals and organisations have made voluntary donation to feed the hungry people, he noted.
Aiyanna said that Rotary donated 20 oxygen concentrators and other medical equipments worth Rs. 20 lakh to PKTB Hospital. They have donated other items worth Rs 29 lakhs during the second wave.
Rotarians Manjesh Kumar, Mahesh, Rohith, Arunkumar, N.S. Anand and others were present.
