Rowdy-sheeter murdered in Palahalli, Srirangapatna

January 20, 2025

Srirangapatna: A rowdy-sheeter was allegedly murdered while his two friends were brutally assaulted on the outskirts of Palahalli village in the taluk on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Supreeth alias Suppi (30), son of Venkataramana of the village. The injured are Arjun and Rishi. Arjun, who has sustained serious injuries, has been admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.

Deceased Supreeth, who owns about one acre of land on the outskirts of Palahalli, has constructed a shed in the land and was rearing race bulls. About two days ago, he had participated in the single bullock cart race at Saali village and had won the second prize. His friends Arjun and Rishi had come back to the village on Saturday morning and were staying in the shed while Supreeth had gone to his house.

The assailants, who had collected information about Supreeth, came to the shed on Saturday night, launched a murderous assault on Arjun. They even assaulted Rishi and asked him to call Supreeth and tell him to come to the shed. When Rishi called Supreeth over the phone, one of his (Supreeth) family members received the call and informed Rishi that Supreeth had gone out leaving his                            phone behind.

Rishi then called his friend Karthik and asked him to come to the shed. When Karthik came to the shed, the assailants sent Rishi with him (Karthik) asking them to bring Supreeth to the shed. Rishi and Karthik then went to Supreeth’s house and Supreeth, who had come to his house by then, came along with Rishi and Karthik to the shed.

As soon as Supreeth arrived, the assailants attacked him with lethal weapons and then smashed his head with a boulder killing him. Before killing Supreeth, the assailants had reportedly disrobed him and burnt his pant. After committing the murder, the gang carried away the boulder which was used to smash Supreeth’s head.

On Oct. 2, 2023, one Kunta Vini was murdered and it is suspected that Supreeth was killed as an act of revenge. It is also suspected that Kunta Vini’s brother Pramod and his accomplice Koli Abhi, who are in jail, had hatched a plot to eliminate Supreeth in the jail itself and had got Supreeth killed.

Supreeth, who was accused in the murder of Vinod alias Kunta, was in jail and had come out on bail about six months ago. As Supreeth got involved in an attempt to murder case, he was sent to jail and he came out on bail on Nov. 14, 2024. On Feb. 12, 2024, Prajwal alias Papu, a friend of Supreeth, was murdered in broad daylight by Kunta Vini’s brother Pramod and gang at Palahalli as an act of revenge over the murder of Pramod’s brother. Now Prajwal’s friend Supreeth has been murdered. In the last one-and-a-half years, series of murders have taken place at Palahalli which has shocked the villagers.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi, Additional SP C.E. Thimmaiah, Dy.SP Murali and staff, visited the spot on Saturday night itself and conducted preliminary investigation.  Srirangapatna Town Police have registered a case.
