Mysuru: Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (RCPE), in association with JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme at Mysuru recently.
Inaugurating the programme, by Dr. B. Suresh, Vice-Chancellor, JSSAHER, said health care is changing rapidly and it is critical for Physicians to develop leadership skills to help guide this change to be a successful doctor whether it be in a community or academic setting. To meet this need well-designed and well-evaluated leadership curricula is necessary which needs to be integrated into the Physicians’ medical curriculum of Under-Graduate and Continuing Medical Education.
An analysis should be conducted at different hierarchical levels and with all those involved in day-to-day clinical practice to find out the type of leadership skills a Physician needs, he said.
An ideal environment for laying the foundation for leadership competencies such as system thinking training, team collaboration, communication skills, quality improvement and insurance systems needs to be provided, he added.
Padmashri awardee Dr. G. Vijayaraghavan, Regional Advisor, RCPE and Director, KIMS, Trivandrum, was felicitated on the occasion. Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. M. Suresh Babu, Deputy Director & Professor of Medicine, JSS Hospital and a Fellow of RCPE, briefed on the plans of JSSAHER to establish an international live web-streaming centre in the Medical College in association with RCPE for web-streaming of academic events held in the Royal College of Edinburgh.
Dr. Vijay Vishwanathan, Head & Chief Diabetologist, MV Diabetic Centre, Chennai, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder, SVYM, Dr. H. Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSSMC, Dr. (Col.) M. Dayananda, Director, JSS Hospital, Dr. C.D. Sreenivas Murthy, Chairman, MPMRT, Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem and Dr. M. Lakshme Gowda were present on the occasion.
