RR registers improbable win

October 12, 2020

Dubai: Riyan Parag hit 42 not out off 26 and Rahul Tewatia made an unbeaten 45 off 28 to take Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a come-from-behind victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final over of the match at Dubai yesterday.

Chasing 159 to win, RR lost their star-studded top three of the returning Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and skipper Steven Smith inside the first five overs.

Robin Uthappa and Sanju Samson were trapped by Rashid Khan to leave RR struggling at 78/5 in 12 overs. But an 85-run unbroken stand between Parag and Tewatia turned the game on its head and took RR to a win that looked improbable for the longest time.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and batted. Helped by Manish Pandey’s 54 and David Warner’s 48 they scored 158/4. Both teams bowled well for a majority of their respective innings but Tewatia and Parag kept their nerves to take the game deep and emerged triumphant in the final overs.

MI beat DC

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets in the 27th match of IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries, to help MI remain in contention at every stage after being handed a target of 163 runs. Ishan Kishan further chipped in with a fine cameo as the Mumbai-based franchise jumped to the top of the table. South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada was the highest wicket-taker for DC, picking two wickets.

Earlier, DC batsman Shikhar Dhawan played an unbeaten knock of 69 runs off 52 deliveries to help his side post a total of 162/4. Dhawan’s innings comprised of six boundaries and a maximum, with the opener receiving quality support from skipper Shreyas Iyer. Iyer scored a 33-ball 42, hitting five boundaries.
