Rs. 15 lakh cheated in online part-time job

Mysuru: A city resident has lost Rs. 15 lakh online by investing money in a part-time job, that later turned out to be a scam. According to a complaint lodged at Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station in city, a person residing at Kanakadasanagar here received a WhatsApp message from an unknown cell phone number, in the name of one Anica. The message sender lured the victim with a part-time job offer promising good returns. The victim responded to the message and was introduced to an agent named Deepa on Telegram App. The agent explained the tasks to perform and asked the victim to register through a website.

The victim registered on the website and received Rs. 1,000 for completing the task and also withdrew the amount. He was later told about the pre-paid task and was asked to invest Rs. 10,000 twice and  was paid the share of commission amount – Rs. 16,000 and Rs. 14,000 respectively.

In later stages, the scamsters succeeded in convincing the victim to invest Rs. 15 lakh. The matters turned worse, when the victim found it difficult to withdraw the amount even after completing the task. After enquiry, the victim was asked to pay 50% of the amount as security deposit to withdraw the amount. By this time, the victim learnt to be cheated and lodged  a Police complaint.
