RTE admissions must become a social endeavour: KDA Chairman Prof. S.G. Siddharamaiah

January 31, 2018

Mysuru: Observing that admission of children in private schools under the RTE (Right To Education) Act should become a social endeavour, Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Prof. S.G. Siddharamaiah has urged Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait to take measures in this regard.

He was delivering the valedictory address of ‘School education and the challenges of medium of education’ workshop jointly organised by Kannada Kriya Samithi and Kannada Development Authority (KDA) at Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall here on Sunday.

Maintaining that RTE often gets derailed because of the ‘understanding’ between private schools and Education Department officials he said poor students have been deprived of the benefits of RTE Act due to this unholy nexus.

Expressing concern over closure of Government schools, he observed that the Government should spend more on improving the quality of education and infrastructure development in Government schools.

Noting that the closure of Government schools and mushrooming of private schools had badly hurt poor students, he said that many poor students are discontinuing studies because of the high cost of education in private schools.

Referring to Sarojini Mahishi Report on jobs to Kannadigas, he said the present Government has ordered amendments to it. Demanding implementation of the report in full, he said the committee constituted for the empowerment of Government schools has made 21 recommendations and the Government should ensure the implementation of all recommendations.
