Run for awareness on Cancer & Rare Diseases

Mysuru: As a prelude to the techno-cultural fest ‘techNIEKs,’ a 5 Km and 10 Km run with the theme ‘Cancer awareness: A cure worth running for’ was held in city this morning.

About 500 people participated in Men, Women and Veterans categories, which was flagged off by Shankar Cancer Hospital Foundation Trustee V.R. Balasubramani at NIE campus.

Winners of 5Km run: (Men) – Ashish Patel, Puttarajegowda and H.D. Rama; (Women) – C. Disha, S. Ashwini and Nandini.

10 Km: (Men) – M.D. Lakshman, Chandan Kumar and Bellanayak; (Women) – Shravana Gowda, D. Rekha and B.R. Deeksha Shetty.

Veterans 5 km: Mahadeva Swamy, K.L. Rajesh Babu and K.N. Keshava Murthy; 10 Km: Puttaveerarje Urs, S.M. Harish and K.P. Jayanna.

NIE student welfare Dean Arvind Yadwad, Student Welfare Officer Sadashiva Murthy, Assistant Student Welfare Officer Vanamala, PE Director Shankaranarayan, Convenor Ravikumar Beerenur and others were present.

‘Race for seven’: Organisation for Rare Diseases India (ORDI) and JSS Hospital had organised ‘Race for Seven,’ a run for 7 km in city this morning to draw the attention of the people on rare diseases.

The run was flagged off by Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar near Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple.  

Among the 500 participants were 43 with rare diseases and 22 crippled people on wheel chairs and retro-fitted vehicles.

JSS Medical College Principal Dr. Basavanagowdappa, JSS Hospital Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. S.K. Ghori, ORDI, Zonal Head Narasimhamurthy and others were present.
