Rural folks display strength at ‘Raitha Dasara’ Sports

Mysuru: The ‘Raitha Dasara’ Sports Meet at the Oval Grounds provided a lot of entertainment for the crowds yesterday.

The events at the Meet for women included running race carrying pots on head, running race holding a spoon with lemon, gunny bag race and one-legged race. Many participants tripped and fell, while some others reached the goal.

RESULTS

Running Race with three pots on head: N. Jyothi of Mysuru – First prize, Mamatha of T. Narasipur – Second and Mamatha of H.D. Kote – Third.

Running Race with water-filled pot on head: K.H. Malini, Periyapatna – 1st, K.V. Kavya, Periyapatna – 2nd and Mamatha, H.D. Kote – 3rd.

Lemon & Spoon Race: K.M. Tulasi, K.R. Nagar – 1st, Mamatha, H.D. Kote – 2nd and M. Chaitra, H.D. Kote – 3rd.

Gunny Bag Race: Sania, K.R. Nagar – 1st, K.H. Malini, Periyapatna – 2nd and Mamatha, H.D. Kote – 3rd.

One-legged Race: N. Jyothi, Mysuru – 1st, Muthamma, Periyapatna – 2nd and K.H. Malini, Periyapatna – 3rd.

The men’s event included gunny bag race, three-legged race, Atlas stone lifting and running race carrying fertilizer sack.

RESULTS

Gunny Bag Race: Revajeet, Periyapatna – 1st, H.T. Prateep, Periyapatna – 2nd and H.S. Harish, Nanjangud – third.

Three-legged Race: N.S. Lokesh and M. Lokesh, T. Narasipur – 1st, K.R. Raghu and K.C. Shivakumar, K.R. Nagar – 2nd and Revajeet and Kiran, Periyapatna – 3rd.

Atlas Stone-lifting: Avinash, Mysuru – 1st and Jayakumar, Mysuru and Ravi, Nanjangud – 2nd.

Running Race carrying fertilizer sack: Ningaraju, T. Narasipur – 1st, Mahadevaswamy, Nanjangud – 2nd and M. Avinash, T. Narasipur – 3rd.

In the Slush-field Race held at Varuna, Sumesh of Periyapatna bagged 1st prize, while Suhas of T. Narasipur and M.A. Darshan of Periyapatna won second and third prize respectively.

Earlier, Minister C.C. Patil inaugurated the Sports Meet. He said that the farmers were happy about the copious rainfall this season. He further said that he had prayed Goddess Chamundeshwari for the welfare and prosperity of the people. MP Pratap Simha and others were present.
