Rural students should develop interest in Yoga: ZP Vice-President

Mysuru/Mysore: Mysuru ZP Vice-President Gowramma Somashekar said that rural students should follow their urban counterparts in learning Yoga.

She was speaking after inaugurating a two-day Yoga Training Camp for High school Physical Education (PE) teachers organised jointly by the Zilla Panchayat and AYUSH Department at a private Hotel here on Thursday.

Highlighting the various benefits of Yoga, she said that Yoga always helps in maintaining good physical and mental health.Observing that Yoga is mostly limited to urban areas, Gowramma Somashekar said it is important that rural students too develop interest in Yoga, just like their urban counterparts for their own physical well-being.

Underlining the role of Physical Education (PE) teachers in imparting Yoga education to students, she said that learning Yoga will also help in maintaining discipline and calmness. Stressing on the need for practising Yoga everyday, she said that Yoga keeps many physical ailments at bay.

DDPI Dr.Panduranga said that PE teachers have a big responsibility in engaging children in extra-curricular activities. Underlining the role of PE teachers in educating children on discipline, punctuality, etc., he called upon children not to let go any chance of learning Yoga.

MCC Deputy Mayor C. Sridhar, Corporator Ravindra, AYUSH District Officer Dr. Seethalakshmi, Dr. V. Sridharmurthy and others were present.
