S. Shivalingaiah (87), retired DCF and a resident of Saraswathipuram, passed away this morning at a private hospital in city following brief illness.

He leaves behind his wife Bhagyamma, three daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Shivalingaiah, who had served in various capacities in the Forest Department as a RFO, DFO and ACF, retired as the first DCF of Bandipur Tiger Reserve. He had initiated many forest developmental works such as tree plantations, khedda operations in Karapura, rejuvenation of ponds and lakes and had led a squad to stop poaching and smuggling of wild animals and timber.

Last rites were held at his native place Chandakavadi in Chamarajanagar district today, according to family sources.
