Sait appeals Health Minister to sanction 50 oxygenated beds at Beedi Workers’ Hospital

Mysore/Mysuru: Narasimharaja (NR) MLA Tanveer Sait has asked Health Minister B. Sriramulu to give administrative approval to establish 50 oxygenated beds at Central Beedi Workers’ Hospital at Kalyangiri here.

In a letter to the Minister, Sait said that preparations are underway to have Corona Care Centre at Beedi Workers’ Hospital, the  third Centre in N.R. Constituency.

Since oxygen is vital for Corona positive patients, the State Government must set up oxygenated beds for the sake of poor patients, he said and added that since there is no sophisticated Government Hospital in N.R.  Constituency, daily wagers, beedi workers, street vendors and economically backward citizens were not financially sound to avail treatment in private hospitals.

In view of this, there is a need to develop the Beedi Workers’ Hospital. Already, the Executive Engineer, Health Department, has prepared an estimate for installing Medical Gas Pipeline System and sent it to the Commissioner’s Office with a letter of recommendation from the District Health Officer.

The Health Minister should give instruction to approve it and direct the authorities concerned to take up this work from the  Disaster Management Fund.

The MLA said, since Government of India has already issued guidelines for re-opening of schools, the existing COVID Care Centres at Farooqia College in Udayagiri and Andalus Public School at Rajivnagar should be closed and the Centres may be opened at Beedi Workers’ Hospital.

The Central Employees State Insurance Department has already given its consent for taking over of the hospital by the State Health Department, he added.
