Mysuru: Maintaining that it is not enough if we speak only about the reservation provided by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to oppressed sections of the society, Chamarajanagar MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad said it is also important to throw light on all his other achievements.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Samanathe Prakashana,’ a publishing house located on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Road in Krishnamurthypuram here on Sunday.
Pointing out that Dr. Ambedkar made immense contribution to the society as a whole, Prasad regretted that apart from the reservation provided by Dr. Ambedkar, his other achievements are less talked about.
Stressing on the need to throw light on all the contributions made by Dr. Ambedkar, he said that the great leader always fought for equality in the society.
Renowned publisher T.S. Chayapathi of Talukina Venkannaiah Smaraka Granthamaale, Mysuru, who was a chief guest, said it was glad to note that ‘Samanathe Prakashana’ has come up with clear objectives and ideals. Pointing out that the work of the publisher is not merely restricted to publishing a work, he said it was also important to correct the shortcomings in the writings and bring out the book much better. Regretting that electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and other communication gadgets have virtually replaced the reading habits among the people, especially the youth, Chayapathi said that the society must see to it that excessive use of modern gadgets do not push us to the brink of self-destruction.
Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) Director Prof. Neelagiri M. Talawar too spoke.
Bhante Kalyanasiri of Vishwamythri Buddha Vihar, former MLA G.N. Nanjundaswamy, former MCDCC Bank President C. Basavegowda, BJP leader H.V. Rajeev, ‘Samanathe Prakashana’ owner Bharath Ramaswamy, Corporator Begum Pallavi, former District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President M. Chandrashekar, senior theatre personality Rajashekar Kadamba and others were present during the programme.
