Mysuru: The advent of technology has had adverse effect on arts and the young artistes should commit themselves to preserve visual arts by using their creative minds, said Karnataka Shilpakala Academy Chairman M.C. Ramesh, here yesterday.

He was speaking after inaugurating sand mound and cement eraka workshop at Chamarajendra Government College of Visual Arts (CAVA) organised by Fine Arts and Handicrafts Sub-Committee in association with Karnataka Shilpakala Academy as part of the Mysuru Dasara-2026.

Ramesh said, “Workshops should help students explore their creative ideas. There has been a significant reduction in handicrafts works with the increase in using machineries which has affected the artists. There is a need to take arts closer to public and only when the artists involve personally in creating artworks it brings a sense of joy among the people. Such programme must be held two days in a week at CAVA.”

The sand mould and cement eraka art workshop will be held till Sept. 30 and the Kavi Art Camp will be held till Sept. 24. Alumni of CAVA have also organised graphics wood crafting camp at the college premises till Sept. 25.  

Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Managing Director M.S. Archana, Department of Kannada and Culture Joint Secretary Nirmala Mathapati, Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage Commissioner and CAVA Dean A. Devaraju, Fine Arts and Handicrafts Sub-Committee Secretary Jayashankar, Working President K. Raghavendra and others were present on the occasion.
