Sangeetha Katti to perform for Raaga Vaibhava in city on Sunday

Mysuru: Raaga Vaibhava Charitable Trust, Mysuru, has organised a grand Hindustani Vocal Recital by Dr. Sangeetha Katti Kulkarni at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road on June 28 (Sunday) at 6 pm. She will be accompanied by Pt. Rajendra Nakod on tabla and Pt. Satish Kolli on harmonium. 

Dr. Sangeetha Katti Kulkarni has a performance experience in Hindustani Vocal as well as Bhajans, Vachanas, Dasavani, Abhangs, Bhavageethe, Folk music and Playback singing. 

Born in Dharwad, Sangeetha Katti received her initial lessons from her father. At the age of four, she met Naushad Ali which she considered a turning point in her life. Naushad Ali asked her to sing some ragas and was impressed; since then she became his student. Trained initially under Sri Sheshagiri Dandapur and Pt.Chandrashekhar Puranikmath, Sangeetha received advanced training in classical vocals from Padma Bhushan Pt. Basavaraj Rajaguru of Kirana and Gwalior Gharana for about twelve years. She is presently under the tutelage of Padma Bhushan Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. 

Sangeetha Katti has worked with the leading music directors including Upendra Kumar, M. Ranga Rao, Vijaya Bhaskar, M.M. Keeravani, C. Ashwath, Hamsalekha and others and sung in nine Indian languages with Balamurali Krishna, K.J. Jesudas, S.P. Balasubramanya, Rajkumar, P.B. Srinivas and others. Sangeetha is an “A” grade artiste in classical and light music categories both on AIR and Doordarshan. 

She has won innumerable awards including the prestigious Government of Karnataka Award, which is also the highest civilian award in the State.   

Pt. Rajendra Nakod, a renowned tabla player, was born in a family of well-accomplished musicians and has keen interest in music since young age. He has performed alongside several musicians including Kadri Gopalnath, Drums Shivamani, to name a few, all over India and abroad. Rajendra Nakod plays for a band ‘Shiva – The Musical Thunder,’ conducting fusion music concerts. Recently he was awarded Pt. K.S. Hadapada Award at Mysore by Sri Guru Puttaraja Sangeeta Sabha. 

Pt. Satish Kolli, one of the most competent harmonium players of Hindustani classical music, started his initial training in vocal music under the tutelage of Pt. M.G. Patwardhan of Dharwad. He later switched to harmonium and was trained under the great maestro Pt. Vasant Kanakapur and is now under the tutelage of Pt. Vyasmurthi Katti.  

He is also taking Lehra training from Pt. Ravindra Yavgal. He is a graduate from the Karnataka University, Dharwad and is a ‘B High’ graded artiste of AIR. He has performed in India,  United States of America, Canada UAE and Oman.
