Mysuru:  Former ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath has suggested distribution of sanitary napkins to women members of BPL families under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Speaking at the general meeting of Zilla Panchayat held at ZP auditorium here recently,  Dr. Pushpa Amarnath observed that about 70% girls in rural areas were ignorant of hygiene during menstrual period and providing sanitary pads through PDS would be very beneficial.

She suggested ZP to take a decision in that context and apprise the State and Central Governments.

Replying to that, ZP CEO P. Shivashankar said that over 1.2 lakh sanitary napkins were being given to various schools and hostels through Department of Women and Child Welfare.
