Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangapatna, the Adhi Ranga of Triranga Darshanam, which has a great significance among Vaishnavas in South India, glowing with lakhs of earthen lamps lit to mark the 29th Annual Makara Sankranti Laksha Deepotsava last night.
Decorated cattle and sheep being made to jump over the fire set to a small hay stack as part of the ritual during Makara Sankranti celebrations at Siddalingapura on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway near Mysuru last night.
A large number of people gathered in the village to witness the age-old tradition of ‘kichchu hayisu’ (jumping over the fire) carried out near the Eshwara Temple on the Highway.
Purushotham of Siddalingapura suffered burn injuries while trying to jump over the fire with his cattle at Siddalingapura and is now being treated at a private hospital.
In below picture, a youngster is seen crossing the ‘kichchu’ as Purushotham rolls on the ground to douse the flames.
