Mysuru’s well-known tennis player R. Nagaraj of the Income-Tax Department, representing Karnataka in the Santhanam Memorial Senior National Tennis Championship 2019, won 55+ Men’s Singles as well as Doubles titles respectively in the Tournament held at Chennai from Jan.21 to 25.
In the Men’s 55+ Singles final, R. Nagaraj beat fifth seeded Chellaiah (TN) 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the title. In the semi-finals, Nagaraj beat Dr. Karthik Kailash (TN) 6-2, 6-3. In the quarter-finals, top-seed R. Nagaraj beat M. Suresh 6-0, 6-2 and in pre-quarters, beat Rajgopal 6-1, 6-0.
In the 55+ Men’s Doubles event, R. Nagaraj, teaming up with Sanjai Kumar (Ker), won the title beating Karthik Kailash & Nirmal Kumar 4-6, 6-3 (11-9) in the final. In the semi-final, the duo beat Koushik & Thyagarajan 6-4.6-0, while in the quarter-finals, they beat S. Kalyan & S. Senthil 6-0, 6-1 to progress further.
