Sarvajna Jayanti celebrations in city

February 21, 2018

Mysuru: Maintaining that the State Government was organising Jayantis of Saints and Seers in order to organise micro-communities, KR MLA M.K. Somashekar has said that poet Sarvajna was a pragmatist famous for his three-lined poems called Tripadi.

He was speaking after inaugurating Sarvajna Jayanti jointly organised by the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department and Sarvajna Jayantotsava Samiti at Kalamandira yesterday.

Pointing out that Sarvajna, a 16th century poet, grew up as a wandering Monk creating Tripadis, Somashekar said that the Poet’s Tripadis mainly dealt with social, ethical and religious issues. Terming Sarvajna as a philosopher in his own right, the MLA said that Sarvajna upheld the wisdom of pastoral life in rural areas in his poems and tried to persuade villagers to give up superstition, meaningless customs and traditions.

He further said that Sarvajna’s famous Tripadis were very much relevant even today.

Earlier floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Sarvajna to mark the Jayanti. Corporator Prakash, Kannada activist Tayur Vittalmurthy, Kannada & Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa, Jayantotsava Samiti Members and Kumbara community Members Naganna, Renukamba, Ramu, Thimmashetty, Channashetty, Jayaram and others were present.
