Ganabharathi is organising a Saxophone concert by the well- known Saxophonist Vidwan G. Ramanathan from Chennai on Jan. 3 at 6 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar. He will be accompanied on the violin by Vidwan Mattur Srinidhi, Vidwan B.C. Manjunath  on mridanga and Vidwan S. Srishailan on ghata. The programme is organised in memory of Vidushi G.V. Neela and Vidushi G.V. Ranganayakamma.

Vid. G. Ramanathan, hailed as the worthy heir to Saxophone Samrat Padma Shri Dr. Kadri Gopalnath, is a 5th Generation Musician belonging to the Royalty of Cochin. Ramanathan had his early training in vocal, violin, mridanga and kanjira from his father, Padma Bhushan, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Prof. T.V. Gopalakrishnan (TVG). An artiste with a natural flair for all instruments, Ramanathan became a disciple of Saxophone Samrat Dr. Kadri Gopalnath and learnt the intricacies of the instrument.

Ramanathan has been conferred with the title of Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and is an Empanelled artiste of the ICCR, New Delhi. He has also been awarded the K.S. Mahadevan Endowment Award for Best Saxophone artiste by Narada Gana Sabha in their Music Season in 2003 and is also honoured with the title of Ilam Isai Mamani by the Madras Kali Bari Trust. 

Ramanathan graduated in Indian music from the prestigious Madras University and in Western music from the Trinity College of Music, London. As a Saxophonist, Ramanathan has evolved a style of his own meticulously guided by his father and Guru TVG. Ramanathan’s music has been well-appreciated and critically acclaimed by one and all. He has performed at all the major Sabhas in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, and Karnataka and also at the prestigious Ananthapuri Festival in Trivandrum, Kerala. He has toured extensively to Dubai, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Switzerland and UK. 

Vidwan Mattur Srinidhi, who is a leading violinist today, is the student of Vidwan R.R. Keshavamurthy. Now he is learning from Vidwan R.N. Thyagarajan. He has accompanied most of the leading artistes and has earned a name for himself in the field of music.

A leading percussionist, he is the son and disciple of Vidwan B.K. Chandramouli. Then he learnt more nuances of laya  from Vidwan T. K. Murthy.

Vidwan S. Srishailan is a senior disciple of Vidwan T.A.S. Mani and now he continues to learn from Vidwan Arjun. He has played for many veteran musicians and is the recipient of many awards and accolades.
