School children to launch ‘Clean Mysuru Campaign’ tomorrow

August 10, 2025

Mysuru: Once celebrated as India’s cleanest city, Mysuru now finds itself ranked third in the ‘Super Swachh League Cities’ category of the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards.

In response to growing concerns over the city’s slipping standards, a ‘Clean Mysuru Campaign’ will be launched tomorrow (Aug. 11) at 5 pm at BSS Vidyodaya in Krishnamurthypuram.

The initiative is led by Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) in collaboration with Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and local schools.

The campaign aims to instil civic responsibility in young citizens, beginning with student-led advocacy. MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif and MCC Assistant Executive Engineer Mrityunjaya will join students at the launch event, which will feature the release of bilingual posters (Kannada and English) promoting five key cleanliness messages.

Two central principles to be championed by schools are: Students should not litter and students should stop others from littering.

Though Mysuru’s ranking remains high, many residents are questioning whether the city still lives up to its reputation. While the MCC often faces criticism, civic groups argue that the problem lies in public behaviour.

Posters will be displayed in classrooms as daily reminders. Organisers believe that consistent messaging and student involvement can inspire broader behavioural change — encouraging waste segregation, reduced plastic use and responsible disposal practices. [Mob: 99009-50366 or Ph. 0821-2515150]
