Mysuru: Demanding a fair quota of reservation in jobs and education, Christian community members will hold a Convention called ‘Namma Paalu – Namma Hakku’ in city on Dec.17.
Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Karnataka Christian Social Welfare Association President Harry D’Souza said that the minority Christian community is not getting the facilities that it is due for.
Stating that the Minorities Welfare Department has been ignoring Christians because of their low numbers, D’Souza claimed that there were 42 lakh Christian community members in the State.
Declaring that a State-level Convention of Christians will be held in the third week of November at Bengaluru to demand inclusion of Christians in OBC list and provide reservation, he maintained that Christians were getting a raw deal in jobs. The Dec.17 Mysuru Convention will chalk-out future course of action on the resolutions passed at the Bengaluru Convention, he said.
Explaining the demands of the community, D’Souza said that the demands include setting of a Christian Development Authority, earmarking of Rs.850 crore for development of Christian community out of the Rs. 2,750 crore meant for minorities welfare, inclusion of Christians in OBC list and to conduct a study on the status of Christians.
Association Convenor Dr. Anil Thomas, Catholic Union President J. Alexander Vincent, office-bearers Arokyadas, Jayaraj and others were present.
