Selected for National and State awards of Kannada and Culture Department

Bengaluru: The Kannada and Culture Department on Thursday announced the list of 44 artistes and achievers from different art fields who have been selected for Karnataka’s prestigious 21 National and State awards, including Basava, T. Chowdaiah, Kanakashri, Sangolli Rayanna and Pampa awards for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24.

According to the list, four from Mysuru are among the award winners: Karnatak musician Dr. Nagamani Srinath (2023-24)- Ganayogi Pandit Panchakshari Gavai National award; Noted sculptor G.L.N. Simha (2022-23) – Varnashilpi Venkatappa award; M.K. Saraswathi – Sri Nijaguna-Purandara award ( 2022-23) and Krishnagiri Ramachandra – Kumaravyasa award (2023-24).

While Dr. Nagamani Srinath bagged the award in the National category,  G.L.N. Simha bagged the award under Arts category and M.K. Saraswathi and Krishnagiri Ramachandra under Culture and Dance category.

The other awardees include Na. D’Souza of Shivamogga – Pampa Award, Banu Mushtaq of Hassan and H.S. Muktayakka of Raichur- Daanachintamani Attimabbe Award, C. Basavalingaiah of Bengaluru and Sadananda Suvarna of Mangaluru – B.V. Karanth Award, K. Marulasiddappa of Bengaluru, Hasan Nayeem Surakoda of Belagavi, K. Ramaiah of Kolar and J.M. Veerasangayya of Ballari – Sangolli Rayanna Award,  Dharwad’s Jaganmathe Akkamahadevi Ashram Trust, R. Sunandamma of Mandya, Meenakshi Baale of Kalaburagi and Dr. Vasundhara Bhupathi of Bengaluru – Akkamahadevi Award, Lingadahalli Halappa of Haveri, B. Shivaram Shetty of Mangaluru- Kanakashri award, Gaanayogi Pandit Panchakshari Gavai Award and veteran singer Kasturi Shankar of Bengaluru and N.B. Shivalingappa of Shivamogga – Santa Shishunala Shariff Award.

 Prominent Social activist Anand Teltumbde of Maharashtra and N.G. Mahadevappa of Dharwad have been selected for Basava National Award, while Dharwad’s Jinadatta Desai and Gujarat’s Gandhi Sevashram have been selected for Sri Bhagavan Mahaveer Shanti National Award, Mumbai’s flautist Nityanand Haldipur and Kolar’s Nadaswara artist Sriramulu for T. Chowdaiah National  Award and Dharwad’s well-known Hindustani Singer Somnath Maradur and Mysuru’s renowned Karnatak Musician Dr. Nagamani Srinath for Gaanayogi Pandit Panchakshari Gavai National Award.

The National Basava Puraskar, Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Peace, T. Chowdaiah and Gaanayogi Pandit Panchakshari Gavai  awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh each and a citation, while the rest of the awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh each and a citation.

All the awards will be conferred at a ceremony to be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru at 6 pm  on Jan. 31.
