Mysuru: A two-day seminar on ‘Eradication of untouchability: Social responsibilities,’ jointly organised by the District Administration and Social Welfare Department, at Kalamandira here, will conclude today.
Speaking after inaugurating the seminar yesterday, Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Muzirulla, who is also the Member-Secretary of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), regretted tthat wewere still talking of untouchability ever after seven decades of independence.
Referring to the recent practice of politicians resorting to ‘Village Stays’ and ‘Dalit Home Stays,’ Judge Muzirulla said that the time has come for the hosts of these stays, to question politicians on their alleged corrupt practices and cheating.
Pointing out that the hosts of such stays should ask politicians not to come alone but bring their entire family along with them, he said that the hosts should also take an oath from politicians they would not indulge in corrupt practices and also not lie or cheat.
Touching upon atrocity cases, he regretted that there was only three percent conviction in atrocity cases. Underlining the need for making atrocity cases much stronger by presenting real facts, he warned of the dangers of false evidence in such cases. He further said that atrocity cases must not be misused.
Earlier floral tributes were offered to the portraits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) D. Randeep, former Mayor Purushottam, Social Welfare Department Joint Director B.S. Prabha, ASP N. Rudramuni and other officials were present.
The two-day seminar featured lecture sessions by scholars and was attended by research students and representatives of various associations and organisations.
