Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) Alumni Association, National Service Scheme (NSS), Gandhi Bhavan, H.C. Dasappa Sarvajanika Samsthe, Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi and Gandhi Vichara Parishat jointly had organised a University-level Seminar on ‘Relevance of Gandhi ideologies,’ commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji, at Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall here recently.
Inaugurating the programme UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar opined that the ideologies of Gandhi have solution for all problems in the world.
He said that UoM is going to come out with books on Gandhi’s ideologies soon.
Speaking on ‘Gandhi and Education’, UoM Visiting Professor C. Naganna recalled that Gandhi had questioned the rationale behind calling an agriculturist as an illiterate just because the persons cannot even sign but could effectively plough and grow crops.
Delivering a special lecture Mahatma Gandhi National Museum, New Delhi, Director A. Annamalai claimed that India stands unique with unity in diversity and briefed on the relevance of Gandhi’s ideologies.
An expo of pictures of life and achievements of Gandhiji was held at the premises.
UoM Alumni Association President Dr. Vasanthkumar Thimakapur presided. H.C. Dasappa Sarvajanika Samsthe President Dr. K. Mahadev, Secretary Saroja Tulasidas, UoM NSS Co-orodinator Dr. B. Chandrashekar, Gandhi Bhavan Director Dr. M.S. Shekar, Gandhi Vichara Parishat Chairman P. Mallesh, Theatre Director Prasanna, former MLA Puttegowda and others were present.
