Mysuru:  Marking World Stroke Day, a seminar on stroke-related topics was organised by JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research and JSS Hospital at Rajendra Centenary Auditorium in JSS Hospital Premises here this morning.

Inaugurating the programme,  NIMHANS Director Dr. B.N. Gangadhar opined that it was essential to treat stroke at the earliest with no loss of time for the patient to get effective treatment.

Recalling his student days,  Dr. Gangadhar said that there was not much study material for Neurology then consequently making the medical students feel that Neurology was a tough nut to crack.

Continuing, Dr. Gangadhar opined that even medical under-graduate students should be taught Neurology to certain extent. He contended that nurses too have an important roll to play while treating stroke patients and added that even family physicians should be able to provide preliminary treatment for stroke patients. He emphasised on good and healthy lifestyle to keep medical problems at bay.

HOD of Neuro Imaging and Interventional Radiology, NIMHANS Dr. A.K. Gupta was the Guest of Honour. JSS Hospital Director Dr. M. Dayananda presided.

Interventional Neuro Radiologist Dr. Roopa Seshadri,  Medical Superintendent Dr.M. Guruswamy, JSS Medical College Principal Dr.H. Basavanagowdappa and others were present.
