Seminar on ‘Constitution, Democracy & India’ held

Mysuru:  Mysuru Ratna Samskrutika Pratishtana had organised a seminar on ‘Constitution, Democracy and India’ as part of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Mahaparinirvana Diwas at Institution of Engineers-India (IEI), Mysuru Local Centre, on JLB Road here on Dec.6.

Inaugurating the event, MP V. Sreenivasa Prasad regretted that Ambedkar is being portrayed as a clerk who had worked on the evolution of the Indian Constitution. He asserted that Ambedkar no where had told that he (Ambedkar) wrote the Constitution.

He recalled that after India got independence, 299 people were part of the Constituent Assembly of India and finally seven members were selected to the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution with Ambedkar as the Chairman.

After successful execution of the job assigned, the then President of India Dr. Rajendraprasad hailed Ambedkar as the Father of the Constitution who is being wrongly portrayed now, he bemoaned.

Continuing, Sreenivasa Prasad recalled that thousands of people laid down their lives for Indian independence but Gandhiji is referred to as the Father of the Nation.

Choosing Ambedkar as the Chairman of the Constitution Draft Formation Committee itself speaks on the excellence of Ambedkar. He opined that the Constitution was formed to unite people of various religions, languages and cultures but it is to be introspected now how effectively the principles of the Constitution have been implemented.

Books ‘Annada Kathegalu’ by Purigali Maradesha Murthy and ‘Prema Khadga’ by M. Kumar were released on the occasion.

‘Kayaka Gowrava’ Award was conferred on Adivasi Activist Parvathi Machhur.

Sri Banthe Kalyanasiri of Vishwa Maithri Buddha Vihar, religious leader Hazrath Moulana Mohammed Zikaullah, State Sugarcane Growers’ Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar, Bhagawan Buddha Educational Institution President Dr. Yamadur Siddaraju, Dr. Ambedkar Research Centre Director Dr. J.
