Senior folk artiste passes away

Mysuru: Senior folk artiste Marisiddamma (80), a resident of Kukkarahalli 3rd Cross in city, passed away here yesterday following cardiac arrest.

She leaves behind her husband Hanumanthaiah, six sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and friends.

Last rites were performed at the burial ground located near Kukkarahalli this afternoon, according to family sources.

Marisiddamma has received many awards including Janapada and Yakshagana Academy Award, Janapada Loka Award among others. She has sung many songs including devotional and folk songs, tatvapada, sobanepada, gigipada and others.

She has also performed during various programmes organised by Mysuru Akashavani, Doordarshan, Department of Kannada and Culture and other organisations.
