Sensitisation programme for school bus, van drivers held

Mysuru:  In an effort to ensure that school buses and vans are maintained properly in the interests of children, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) in association with the Transport Department, held a sensitisation programme for school bus, van drivers and attendants of Private Educational Institutions at Maharaja College Grounds in the city  this morning.

During the programme, in which over 300 drivers and attendants took part, the participants were sensitised on following the guidelines laid out by the Supreme Court constituted Safety Committee.

The guidelines include keeping the vehicles in good running condition, proper periodic maintenance, installation of Speed Governors and GPS system, provision of adequate space in vehicles for keeping school bags, fixing of safely grills on windows of vehicles etc.

The Transport Department checked the schools buses and vans and the drivers of those vehicles in which deficiencies were found, were asked to rectify the same within 15 days.

The drivers were warned that cases would be registered as per the provisions of the Indian Motor Vehicle (IMV) Act, against those drivers who do not maintain safely standards as per the SC’s Safety Committee guidelines.

Joint Commissioner of Transport Dr. C.T. Murthy, RTO (West) Prabhuswamy, ARTO Rajappa, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Jagannatha Rao, Prabhakar, Satish and Charles, DDPI Mamatha, DDPI office staff Chandrakant, Krishna Nayak and others were present.
