Multi-crore gold loan scam

Mysuru: Separate FIRs have been registered against accused Chinnathambi, who has allegedly cheated thousands of customers by pledging their gold and not returning the same and against customers.

While the customers lodged a complaint accusing three persons including Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi and Kavithashree of abetment to suicide, a Police Head Constable has lodged a complaint against the customers for disrupting public servant in discharging his duty, following which separate cases were registered.

Complaint from customers: Customers in their complaint have stated that Chinnathambi, after securing bail, had said that he would settle their money. On Aug. 7, he (Chinnathambi), through a Police officer, had summoned them to his restaurant Club 64 in Kuvempunagar Police limits.

But when they went to the restaurant, Chinnathambi, his staff Kavithashree and others locked them up, abused them using foul language and got them assaulted by goonda elements besides threatening them with life if they do not take back their complaint and withdraw the case against him. The customers further stated that they somehow managed to escape from the restaurant and seven customers lodged a complaint against Chinnathambi and his accomplices.

Complaint from the Head Constable: Head Constable Mahadeva, attached to Kuvempunagar Police Station, who has lodged a complaint against the customers, has stated in the complaint that on Aug. 14 night, 15 to 20 people, without obtaining permission, blocked the public road causing inconvenience to the public.

When they were staging a protest, he (Head Constable) went near the protesters and enquired, they said that their names were Choranahalli Shivanna, and Shobha. But when he asked them to stop the protest, they (protesters) did not pay heed to his words and began beating the drums thus obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty, the complaint added.

Customers meet former CM: Meanwhile, customers, who have been allegedly cheated by Chinnathambi, met former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah when he had come to Mysuru recently and explained their ordeal. The former CM, who listened to them, called the City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar and collected information and instructed her to conduct a thorough probe.
