Service roads on Hunsur Road

August 21, 2026

Sir,

In my opinion, the newly constructed service roads on Hunsur Road, namely at Hinkal, Hootagali and Belavadi, are poorly designed and of little utility currently.

The main roadway remains a congested 4-lane highway (2 lanes on either side of the centre median). I suggest the two medians on either side, between the edge of the main carriageway and the service roads, be removed entirely.

The service roads could then add a third lane on either side of the main carriageway. Additionally, stretches of the road without service roads could be widened (ex D-Mart/Fresh Catch Junction-Yelwal).

This would thus create a 6-lane highway from Yelwal all the way to Hinkal flyover, which is what the proposed flyover is supposed to do.

The proposed flyover could thus be just from Hinkal to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa (Hotel Metropole) Circle, if needed.
