Is MCC keen on maintaining only select places clean?
Mysuru: Is Mysuru, that got the top ranking at least in the medium category this time, a really clean city? All one has to do is, visit Dhanvanthri Road next to K.R. Hospital.
If one sees the pathetic condition that prevails in this Central Business District, then one will be forced to curse the people’s representatives and the officials responsible for this state of affairs.
The water logging that almost turns into a mini lake is nothing new at the junction of Sayyaji Rao Road and Dhanvanthri Road near the Bata Showroom. Everyday hundreds of motorists wade through the water. The pedestrians cross the road holding their noses because of the stinking smell.
However, in spite of repeated complaints of the shopkeepers on this road, no action has been taken thus forcing them to resign to the negligent attitude of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials. Even the voice of the two-wheeler parking lot attendants and the contractor very close to the place has dried up. This has emboldened the officials and the Corporator of the area to ignore the complaints and merrily go about their other work.
Apart from the water logging near Bata Showroom, the storm water drain from Janata Bazar Drug Store on Dhanvanthri Road is in a state of repair and this is posing health problems to the public.
The drainage filled with solid waste flows on to the road mixed with rainwater. It is becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The patients in the neighbouring K.R. Hospital fear that they will be attacked with more communicable diseases. This is one of the reasons for the mosquito menace inside the hospital premises, it is said.
The rainy season adds more woes as there is no place for the rainwater to flow. And since the garbage lies un-cleared for days, the whole place stinks.
Unscientific work: It is a matter of regret that in spite of crores of rupees grant that Mysuru has got, the basic facilities have not been provided properly. The public money is being wasted on unscientific and sub standard work. The drain constructed on Dhanvanthri Road is unscientific. Apart from the drainage constructed, a little above the road height, there is no space provided for free flow of rainwater that is collected.
The slabs covering the drainage are broken at many places. As a result, the waste has accumulated near the ACP Traffic Police Station which forces the rainwater to run on the road. There is no arrangement made for the rainwater to flow into the drain.
Due to this unscientific planning, people are forced to suffer untold miseries for no fault of theirs, complain the shopkeepers on Dhanvanthri Road and the public. They only hope that MCC takes some urgent action to mitigate their woes.
