Sex video case: Karnataka HC rejects bail plea of former MP Prajwal Revanna

October 22, 2024

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court (HC) yesterday dismissed one bail plea and two anticipatory bail pleas filed by former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna in connection with two rape cases and one case of sexual harassment filed against him. A High Court Bench, headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna rejected the three pleas.

“Prima facie, the alleged acts of the petitioner depicts, wanton lust, depravity of senses and has a chilling effect down the spine of the society,” the High Court observed while rejecting an anticipatory bail plea by Prajwal Revanna in a case filed by a former housemaid at his home.

“It is made clear that the observations made in the course of order are only for the purpose of consideration of the case of the petitioner for grant of anticipatory bail and the same will not bind or influence any other pending proceeding,” the HC also stated.

The former MP had sought bail in three cases of rape and sexual harassment where a charge-sheet has been filed. The HC observed that the Supreme Court has laid down “eight postulates” for considering an application for bail such as “whether there is prima facie reason to believe that the accused has committed the offence; nature and gravity of the accusation; severity of punishment; likelihood of the offence being repeated; witnesses being threatened or influenced; and justice being thwarted.”

“In the considered view of the Court, all the postulates would run against the petitioner for denial of bail,” the HC said.
