Mysore/Mysuru: Achievers from different fields were conferred ‘Shankaracharya Sadbhavana Awards’ at a programme organised under the joint aegis of Himalaya Pratishtana and SSJG, marking Shankaracharya Jayanti at Nimbujadevi Temple premises in Nazarbad on Sunday.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa conferred the awards on C.N. Diwakar (Administrative Service), M.S. Rajashree (Public Administration), B. Raghavendra (Press), V. Nagaraj (Social Service) and Madhusudhan (Music).
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Srivatsa said mass prayers and religious programmes will not only help save our religion, but also strengthen us mentally. Stressing on the need for celebrating Jayantis of great personalities, he said that the Acharya trio — Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya and Madhvacharya — have contributed a lot for Sanatana Dharma.
Earlier, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Shankaracharya. Scholar K. Anantaramu, social worker Dr. K. Raghuram Vajpayee, Nimbujadevi Temple Trust Vice-President Janardhan Jetti, Secretary M. Kiran, Himalaya Pratishtana President S. Ananth, S. Nagesh Babu and others were present.
