Sharana Sahitya Parishat Award to be conferred tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: Noted painter and sculptor of the city L. Shivalingappa and Uttara Kannada’s Attiveri Sharana Sahitya preacher Maate Basaveshwari will be conferred the prestigious Shakuntala Jayadeva Sharana Award (2021) at a programme organised by Mysuru District Unit of Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat and Mysuru’s Kadali Mahila Vedike at Rajendra Bhavan in JSS    Hospital premises here at 5 pm tomorrow (Mar.19).

Announcing this at a press meet here recently, Parishat’s Mysuru City Unit President M.G. Sadanandaiah said that ZP CEO B.R. Poornima will inaugurate the programme in the presence of Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat President Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy will preside. JSS Mahavidyapeetha Publication Division Director Prof. Morabada Mallikarjuna will deliver the felicitation address. Shakuntala Jayadeva, who has instituted the award, will be present.

A Vachana Gayana programme will be presented by Uma Mahadevaswamy and team at 4.30 pm.

Vachana Sangeethotsava on Mar. 26

Continuing, Sadanandaiah said that the Sharana Sahitya Parishat will be organising a Vachana Gayanotsava in memory of Panchakshari Gavai at Rajendra Bhavan in JSS Hospital premises at 5 pm on Mar.26. Pandit D. Kumardas and Dr. Sridevi Kulenoor will render vachanas. Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji will grace the occasion. Music University Vice-Chancellor Prof.Nagesh V. Bettakote will preside.

L. Shivalingappa, a renowned painter and sculptor  of the city, learnt the art from his mentor noted sculptor and Palace artist Siddalingaswami and later from MTB Acharya. He has over 30 exhibitions to his credit. He has also held exhibitions at many countries  including Australia and New Zealand. A promoter of Mysuru Art Gallery, he has over 36 books and 5 edited works  to his credit. Maate Basaveshwari, who was born at Davanagere, studied at Koodalasangama till 10th std. Later, getting influenced by discourses of Basavadi Sharanas, she took Lingadeekshe and subsequently involved herself in preaching Basava Philosophy. Later, she started ‘Basavadhama’ Ashrama  in  a 6-acre area close to Attiveri Bird Sanctuary in Mundgod taluk of Uttar Kannada district. She had chaired Mundgod Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat Meet in 2014.
