Shocked by grandson’s drowning, woman dies of heart attack

April 9, 2021

Kushalnagar: Unable to bear the shocking news of her grandson’s death, a 62-year-old woman died of a massive heart attack at Hosathota village in Somwarpet Taluk of Kodagu district last evening.

Eighteen-year-old Mubasheer, son of Ramlan, a resident of Second Igoor village in Somwarpet Taluk had been to Harangi backwaters at Hosathota near Suntikoppa yesterday morning along with a group of 11 friends. Before leaving for the backwaters, they played football till evening and entered the water to bathe and swim.

Caught in water currents, Mubasheer was unable to swim to the banks and drowned as his friends watched in horror. Shocked by the incident, the friends returned home quietly and did not report the incident to anyone.

As Mubasheer did not return even after 10 pm, his friends were questioned by family members about his missing. His friends informed the family about the drowning incident and as his grandmother Rukkia heard the news, she collapsed and died of a massive heart attack.

Family members said that Rukkia was attached to Mubasheer and she could not bear the grief. Even his mother fell ill due to shock and has been taken to the doctor.

Though the Police and Fire Brigade personnel entered the Harangi backwaters to search for the body last night, they were unsuccessful. Today morning they began their search operation and Mubasheer’s body has been fished out.

Suntikoppa Police have registered a case and a mahajar has been conducted. The Police are questioning Mubasheer’s friends to gather more information about the incident.
