Show empathy on birds, animals during summer: ZAK Chairman

March 31, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) Chairman L.R. Mahadevaswamy has appealed to the citizens to feed water to birds and animals due to onset of summer and sudden increase in the mercury level.

He was speaking after filling water to the container hung to a tree on Rama Vilasa Road by Mysuru Yuva Balaga and Devaraja Yuva Brigade here recently.

Mahadevaswamy said, in the changed scenario, everyone must live in tune with rule of land. Since humans are dependent on nature for everything, they must develop social service attitude to protect animals and birds. “We must stop axing of trees and grow more saplings,” he added.

He said, trees keep the surrounding areas cool and give the much needed oxygen. Protection of trees was must to conserve the birds’ population. In summer, birds and animals do not get drinking water easily. So, the citizens can help by keeping the earthen or plastic pots or containers on the terrace or rooftops to feed water to birds. Giving water to thirsty person during summer was sacred, he noted.

M.N. Naveen Kumar, member, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), regretted over cutting trees in urban areas which has resulted in nature imbalance. Understanding this, members of two youth forums have fixed the earthen and plastic plates on trees on Rama Vilasa Road to feed birds. Awareness on the protection of wildlife and feeding of birds and animals will be conducted for the school and college students.

Neelakanta, Principal, Marimallappa’s PU College, Paramesh Gowda of BJP Traders’ Cell, Lohit, President, BJP Yuva Morcha-Narasimharaja Constituency and others were present.
