Silk University to be set up in State: Minister

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government is mooting setting up of a Silk University.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayareddy said that the University  aims to hone the skills of technical graduates for employment.

Pointing out that the Government is looking to bridge the gap between skills and the Industry, Rayareddy said that University will help reduce unemployment by training youths in skill development.

Stating that the Government has plans to increase admission in degree colleges by at least 45 percent over the next five years, the Minister said that 16 residential degree colleges will be set up in 10  backward districts of the State including Bidar, Kalaburgi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Chamarajanagar and Chitradurga.
