Chamarajanagar: Singer Mangala Gowri (59), a native of Chamarajanagar, passed away yesterday in Mysuru following brief illness.
She was staying with her younger sister in Mysuru.
A Vidwat holder in Karnatak Classical Music, she was well-versed in light music and folk songs and was famous in the district for her melodious voice.
She had given concerts in various places including Bengaluru and Mumbai and was also training children in classical music.
The body of the singer was brought to Gangamatasthara Layout in Chamarajanagar, where it was kept for the public to pay their last respect and the last rites was performed in Chamarajanagar later.
