Mysore/Mysuru: The city was witness to a slew of protests this morning with various associations taking out demonstrations over various issues at different venues.

Strongly opposing the celebration of Hindi Divas, members of Karnataka Raskhana Vedike staged a demonstration in front of the SBI Mysuru Head office at Nehru Circle on Ashoka road .

Seeking a revision of language policy of the Union Government, the protestors strongly condemned the imposition of Hindi at all levels of Governance. Charging the Centre of clandestinely imposing Hindi on Non-Hindi speaking people, they urged the Government to give due recognition to Kannada in appointments. Highlighting the importance of conducting competitive exams in Kannada along with English, the protestors warned of intensifying protest if the Centre does not revise its Hindi dominated language policy. Vedike District President Praveen Kumar and others took part in the protest.

Karnataka Jana Sainya staged a demonstration at the City Railway Station Circle (Dr.Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle) in protest against Hindi Diwas. The protestors urged the Government to use Kannada compulsorily at all Railway Stations in the State, printing of advance ticket booking forms in Kannada, replacing the three-language policy with a twin language formula (Kannada and English), prominence to Kannadigas in awarding Rai-lway contracts, Printing of Railway tickets in only Kannada and English across Karnataka and conduct of Civil services and other Union Government recruitment exams for appointment in public sector under takings such as Railways, Banks and other enterprises in Kannada along with English. Jana Sainya office-bearers G. Sridhar, S. Paramesh and others took part.

Kannadambe Raskhana Vedike and Kasturi Karnataka Nyayapara Vedike too staged separate demonstrations   against Hindi Diwas at Gandhi Square in the heart of the city.

In other demonstrations, members of Mysuru City and District Brahmins Association  staged a protest in front of Dattatreya temple on Chamaraja Double Road (100 ft. Road), urging the District Administration to stop demolition of places of worship that are enlisted by it. 

Association President D.T. Prakash, Karnataka Brahmin Development Board Director M.R. Balakrishna, community leaders Vikram Iyengar, Rakesh Bhat, Kadakola Jagadish, Vinay Kanagal and others took part.

Chetan M.Gowda of Jago Mysuru staged a solo demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust opposite the District Law Courts Complex, urging the Government to halt demolition drive and save places of worship .

Employees of Nanjangud based Krehan Texchem Pvt.Ltd.,(KTPL), under the banner of AIUTUC, staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office , seeking fulfillment of their demands, which included recognition of their Constitutionally formed  Factory  Labour Union, which has over 500 membership, re-employment of six sacked employees who were sacked illegally, payment of Gratuity of the old company in the format of Karnataka Labour Department Gratuity Act and direction to the Factory management to honour the bilateral agreement reached on Nov.11, 2020, among others.

The protestors submitted a memorandum at the DC’s office containing their charter of demands. Earlier, the employees took out a bike rally from the Factory premises at Nanjangud to the DC office.

Union Leaders Chandrashekar Meti, T.N.Lokesh, Suresh, Mahadevaswamy, Shankaregowda, H.Vikram and others took part in the protest.
