Social Welfare Department Commissioner inspects Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan works

July 12, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: With the works on the construction of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan in the heart of the city going on at a snail’s pace, Social Welfare Department Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Kumar visited the Bhavan on Monday and inspected the progress of works.

The works on Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan is coming up in a 2-acre area at the ground close to the now Devaraja Police Station (previously Nallappathana Station) in Devaraja Mohalla. There have been demands that the works be expedited and the Bhavan be thrown open for public use at the earliest.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, during a progress review meeting held in Mysuru on June 10, had directed District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and the officials to carry out an inspection and submit an estimate on the money that was further needed for completion of all the works. Subsequently, DC Dr. K.V. Rajendra, MUDA Commissioner G.T. Dinesh Kumar and PWD officials visited the site and carried out an inspection, following which an estimate was prepared.

Now, after a month,  Dr. Rakesh Kumar carried out an inspection, during which he received inputs regarding the pending works and what needed to be done for expediting the works, which has come almost to a standstill for some time.

After being informed that Rs. 20 crore was needed for completion of all works, he suggested the authorities to execute the works out of MUDA and MCC grants under a sharing system. The Bhavan will have an exhibition facility, a Museum, a Memorial etc.
