March 19, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar has said that social workers should work for  the upliftment of the weak and oppressed.

He was speaking at the day-long symposium on ‘Ecological Social Work,’  organised by University of Mysore’s  Department of Studies in Social Work at Senate Bhavan  in Manasagangothri campus, as part of World Social Work Day- 2022 celebrations with the theme ‘Co-building a new Eco-Social World: Leaving No One Behind’ and launching of ‘Asian Journal of Professional Social Work’ website on Thursday.

“Social workers play many roles in community development and are responsive in times of crisis. They must work to improve the standard of living of the weak and the oppressed and there is a need to create awareness in the society in this regard. We intend to make use of all communication tools available to carryout social work. It is commendable that the Department of Social Work, achievers in social work, education experts and student community are all trying to create a new society,” the VC added.

Chairman of Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education, Hyderabad, DR. W. G. Prasanna Kumar, MSW Socialites President Dr. James Thomas, Associate Professor and Chairperson of Department of Studies in Social Work Dr. H.P. Jyothi and others were present.
