Mysore/Mysuru: As part of International Women’s Day, the Academy of Fine Arts, Srirangapatna and Ayama Academy of Fine Arts, Mysuru, had organised a solo play titled ‘Deepadharini’  at Ayama Academy Kalakuteera, Bogadi 2nd Stage here recently.

The play, carrying the meaningful message “Is being a woman alone enough?” was beautifully performed by Srividya Kamath.

Written by Sudha Adukal and directed by Dr. Shripada Bhat, the play portrayed the struggles, pain, sacrifices and inner strength of women in a deeply touching manner.

Prior to the play, a special programme was conducted in which Dr. B.S. Dinamani, a lecturer and theatre artiste, recited a poem reflecting the sensitivities and emotions of women.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest H.N. Puttagowramma, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Department, Chamarajanagar, said in today’s society there is often a difference between parents’ expectations and children’s interests.

She emphasised that parents should recognise their children’s interests and encourage them in fields such as music, dance, theatre, poetry and sports. These art forms, she noted, often become a source of strength and support during difficult times in life.

Expressing concern over the alarming statistics of female foeticide in Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and Mandya districts, she highlighted that women play numerous roles in life — as daughters, sisters, wives, mothers and grandmothers — making immense sacrifices and therefore women truly embody the spirit of sacrifice.

Dr. S.V. Shambhavi Swamy, Director of Ayama Academy; S.V.R. Swamy, President; Prof. Kyatanahalli Ramanna; Srinivasu Palahalli, Director of Niranthara; V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy, Joint Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, film actor Balraj Wadi, along with hundreds of children and parents attended.
