An unbeaten century by opener A.V. Abhilash (102 n.o., 76b, 11×4, 2×6) and his 102-runs fourth wicket partnership with M. Anbu (54 n.o., 52b, 5×4, 1×6), enabled Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, to register a well-earned 17-run win over CMR University, Bengaluru, and entered pre-quarter-finals in the South Zone Inter-University Men’s Cricket Tournament 2019-20, conducted by University of Mysore and played at JSS-SJCE Grounds here yesterday.
Batting first, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, started badly and were reeling at 15 for three at one stage, but they recovered through some excellent rear-guard action by opener A.V. Abhilash (102 n.o.) and M. Anbu (54 n.o.) to post a total of 207 for five in 25 overs. In reply, CMR University, Bengaluru, scored 190 for four in 25 overs, and fell short of the target by 17-runs. M. Sai Sushil Reddy (87, 64b, 7×4, 5×6) top scored, while Tushar Singh (48) and B.R. Rohan (31) were the other contributors.
