South Zone Inter-University Men’s Cricket Tournament: Thammem Ansari excels in University of Chennai’s win

Excellent left-arm spin bowling by R. Thammem Ansari (4-0-9-5) ably supported by another left-arm spinner M. Silambarasan (four for 22), enabled University of Chennai to register a five-wicket win over Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and entered the pre-quarter-finals in the South Zone Inter-University Cricket tournament for men 2019-20, conducted by University of Mysore at the Maharaja’s College grounds here on Thursday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Andhra University’s batsman fell to the guiles of left-arm spinner Thameem Ansari (five for nine) and Silambarasan (four for 22) and were bowled out for a paltry 96 in 21 overs. Mohammed Anwar Raza top scored with 46 runs. In reply, University of Madras, Chennai, scored 97 for five in 15.4 overs and registered a five-wicket win. Skipper D. Archit (31, 34b, 3×4, 1×6) and S. Aravind (36, 26b, 4×4, 1×6) were the main contributors.  Thameem Ansari was adjudged as the Man of the Match.

RGUHS, Bengaluru 39 in 17.1 overs (R. Rohith Ram 3/9, M.K. Rahul 2/12, R. Vignesh 2/12) lost to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore 41/1 in 4.2 overs (A.V. Abhilash 20). Man of the Match: R. Rohith Ram.

Gandhi Institute of T & M, Vishakapatnam 159/9 in 25 overs (SVSR Krishnam Raju 53, Ch Naveen 35, A.N.
